iPad Mini with A20 Pro Chip, the Biggest iPad Mini Update Yet

The new iPad mini keeps the compact size people love and changes almost everything inside it. It has a larger 8.5″ OLED display, a new A20 Pro chip, a thinner and lighter body and, for the first time, water and dust resistance. It is available in Midnight and Starlight, with 128GB, 256GB and 512GB storage.

8.5″ OLED Display

OLED gives deeper blacks and richer color than the previous Liquid Retina screen. Brightness reaches up to 600 nits for everyday content and up to 1,200 nits for HDR content, more than double the peak brightness of the previous model. A nano texture display option reduces glare in bright light and is available on the 256GB and 512GB models.

A20 Pro Chip

The A20 Pro is built on a 2 nanometer process and has Neural Accelerators in every GPU core. Apple says it is up to 60 percent faster for CPU tasks, up to 2.7 times faster for graphics and up to 4.5 times faster for AI than the A17 Pro in the previous iPad mini. The 128GB and 256GB models have a 5 core CPU, 7 core GPU and a 16 core Neural Engine. The 512GB model has a 6 core CPU, 7 core GPU and a dual 16 core Neural Engine.

Thinner, Lighter and Water Resistant

The new design is around 15 percent thinner and lighter than before. The WiFi model is 5.4 mm thick and weighs 0.56 pound. It is the first iPad with IP67 water and dust resistance. A new Acoustic Display audio system plays sound from behind the display, so there are no speaker holes.

Cameras and Connectivity

The 12MP Center Stage front camera now sits on the long edge for landscape video calls, and the 12MP Wide rear camera has an adaptive True Tone flash. The Apple N1 chip brings WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 6, and cellular models use Apple’s C2 modem for up to 50 percent faster cellular speeds. Touch ID is built into the top button, the USB C port supports fast charging, and the iPad mini works with Apple Pencil Pro.
